Cumberland College was the original Cumberland Presbyterian educational institution. Admitting women in the first class (1826) it was likely the first coeducational institution in the United States. Shortly after the formation of Cumberland Presbytery in 1810, Cumberland clergy felt the need for an education institution to train ministers in the liberal arts as well as theology. Thus was born Cumberland College in Princeton, Kentucky. Although fraught with problems, Cumberland College educated Cumberland Presbyterian ministers from 1825 to 1861 and even survived the spin-off of Cumberland University to Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1842.
This volume includes a reconstruction of Cumberland College's class rolls and graduates based on the original treasurer's book and various secondary documentation.
