Catechisms offer a rich vocabulary for expressing our faith and a theological way of looking at the world. The shorter Catechism was a part of the 1883 Cumberland Presbyterian Confession of Faith, and was used as a tool to pass on the faith to growing believers. The Catechism consisted of questions asked by an instructor, and answers memorized by the student on everything from the nature of the Trinity to the meaning of the Lord's Prayer.

In Japan in 2008, the Cumberland Presbyterian General Assembly approved a revised Catechism to accompany the Confession of Faith. The new Catechism reflects central and unique themes of the 1984 Confession of Faith. Until now this document has only been available online. We are pleased to offer this slim trade paperback, uniform with the Confession of Faith, which presents both the 2008 and 1883 Cumberland Presbyterian catechisms for reading and study.
