This book came about after Irby noticed that Cumberland Presbyterians, while claiming a middle ground between Calvinism and Arminianism, typically only spoke and wrote about their "modified Calvinism", with hardly a mention of Arminianism. Others, especially strict Calvinists, have long called Cumberland Presbyterians Arminians. Irby examines and explains the actual differences between the two.
