If you can name 12 celebrities more easily than you can list Jesus' 12 disciples, then you might be an American. If you know more personal details about lives of certain celebrities than you know about your next-door neighbor, then you might be an American.
Most teens desire to be famous. A 2007 survey revealed the top (by far) two life goals for US young adults were to be rich and famous. Another 2007 study by UCLA showed preteens’ top desire for their future was to be famous. A 2011 study by Christian Children’s Fund reported that in developing countries, about half of ten to twelve-year-olds want to enter the helping professions (teachers, doctors), but in the western/developed countries, about half want to pursue fame as actors, singers, or fashion designers. These lessons help to think theologically about fame.
This resource is for the leader. It has reproducible handouts for students. There is no student book. If you have more than one leader for a class, however, you might want to get a copy of this resource for each one.
These 5 lessons, designed for youth, include:
What Makes a Celebrity?
Christians in a Celebrity Culture
Surrendering Celebrity for the Savior
Using Celebrity for Christ
