The author served for eight years as a missionary in Colombia, South America. He also worked as the Director of the Global Mission Unit of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, supervising missionaries and directing humanitarian ministries in sixteen countries.

Rev. Dr. Robert B. Watkins, retired from his position as Facilitator for Missions Development on July 15, 2012, after 29 years of combined service as a missionary or as executive staff for the Missions Ministry Team of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Marji, intended to move to Phoenix, Arizona, and plan to spend a great portion of their time enjoying family and friends.
