The Good News Translation of the Holy Bible was created by the American Bible Society and the corresponding societies in several other countries. The aim of this new translation was to give the reader maximum understanding of the Bible. To this end, the translating team did not follow the traditional vocabulary and style of previous English translations. Instead, they attempted to set the biblical message in everyday English. This translation, then, is good for evangelism purposes, for those who are new to reading / hearing scripture, and for those who want or need to more easily understand what they are reading.
For example:
Romans 8:1 from the King James version: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
The same verse from the Good News Translation: "There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus."
This particular item has a durable and flexible burgundy-colored cover. It includes explanations of words which might not be known to some readers, a chronology of events from the Bible, a list of New Testament passages which quote the Septuagint (an ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament), 14 black and white maps, and a subject index (or concordance).
