It's the winter of 1932 and, like almost everybody else, Larry is poor. He is having a hard time making any money as a shoe-shine man "riding the rails" from town to town because Christmas is coming and anybody who can afford a shine is too busy to stop for one.

Then Larry meets a boy who seems to have even less than he does... but this boy has something else, something more valuable than any material possession. Larry, whom everyone calls "The Shine Man", discovers that this boy "shines" in a different way, a heavenly way.
