Through the Lens: An Advent Worship and Preaching Series for Cumberland Presbyterians

See Advent through a different lens this Christmas season! Through the Lens is a comprehensive worship, preaching, and devotional resource designed to help Cumberland Presbyterian congregations explore the incarnation of Jesus Christ from fresh perspectives. Developed by the Louisa Woosley Preaching Initiative and published for the Ministry Council of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, this coordinated collection offers practical resources for pastors, worship leaders, congregations, and individuals throughout Advent and Christmas.

The downloadable packet includes six sermon commentaries by Rev. Ryan Young, exploring the coming of Christ through the perspectives of biblical figures including David, Joseph, Elizabeth and Zechariah, Gabriel, the shepherds and other outcasts, and Simeon and Anna. Worship liturgies and Advent candle readings by Rev. Emrie Rogers provide opening prayers, calls to worship, congregational responses, prayers of confession, and readings for the lighting of the Advent wreath. Completing the collection is a beautifully illustrated 25-day Advent devotional, featuring scripture, personal reflections, thought-provoking photography, and contributions from Cumberland Presbyterians across the denomination.

Edited by Rev. Dusty Luthy, Through the Lens invites readers and congregations to move beyond familiar interpretations of the Christmas story and discover the continuing presence of Emmanuel—God with us. Whether preparing sermons, planning worship, lighting Advent candles, or spending a few quiet moments in personal devotion, this collection offers meaningful ways to experience the hope, peace, joy, and love of the season.
